Beneath that smile...
Sunday 31 December 2006

Well I decided to reblog again after a very long time.
2006 is approaching an end, and what a year it has been.
Time to relook at eventful things that occurred this year.

1) The O Levels
Perhaps the biggest event that took place this year. Months of stress and mugging, having to study hard to get good results. We had to sit through the bitter Prelims, and I remember having to travel every day during Sep Holidays and the study break to Bishan Library to study with peeps. Glad this is over.

2) The 2006 Fifa World Cup
One of the biggest phenomenon this year, with an estimated viewership of 6.5 billion people. It was perhaps one of the most interesting World Cup ever. Highlights were:
-C.Ronaldo, who dived here and there
-C.Ronaldo again, who rushed to the referee when Rooney stomped on a Portuguese player. Rooney pushed back C.Ronaldo and was red-carded. England then lost on penalties.
-And who could forget the legendary headbutt by Zidane on Marco Materazzi, sparking off merchandises and videos based on this incident. A sad ending for a legendary player.

3) Death of Steve Irwin
Otherwise known as the Croc Hunter, he died when being stung by a stingray. One of the most popular icons in animal documentaries, his sudden death cause many around the world to mourn for his death.

4) 4E3 06 Chalet
Held from 5-7 Dec, I certainly had loads of fun, playing PS2 among other games, talking crap and BBQ-ing.

5) 2006 Singapore General Elections
Ah...who could forget the James Gomez saga, the tussle between PAP and the WP, and the SPP critisizing the government. It was an interesting campaign, but when the votes are in, PAP once again won.

6) Zhonghua Learning Carnival
This year's Learning Carnival will go down as the worst in years. Yet, I did have some fun, participating in the Creativity Challenge: how happy I was when our rocket car finally launched, and the innovative class cheer. Also then, I was attached to a Thailand buddy named Nic and we had fun travelling across Dhoby Ghaut during the Geog Initary.

7) Graduation Day
Perhaps the most saddening day of the year, as I had to bade farewell to Zhonghua Sec, my 2nd home for the past 4 years. The friends I made, the fun I had, I will always treasure.

8) Moses vs Chu-Huan vs Jeremy
Always squabbling in class are these 3 people I name above me. Funny things blurted out, like how Chu-Huan told Jeremy he was God. We once also dared Moses to eat gross stuff, and he ended sick for the next day.

9) Media Club--->Infocomm Club
My CCA was turned into Infocomm Club after we retired, and they went on to achieve success for the school. The club is finally getting honours, and I wish them all the best in their future endeavours

10) A New Zhonghua Record (Caning)
Caning has become more rampant this year, being held every month, and sometimes, consecutive weeks. I hope that the school will be able to stamp out gangsterism behaviour so that this will never happen again. Oh well, I have already graduated anyway :p

So basically these were the highlights of 2006. There are more, but I am just too lazy to list every single thing out. As a new year approaches, I would like to bade farewell to 2006, and I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. May 2007 bring good luck and fortunes to all of you.

"Should auld acquaintance be forgot..."
